About Robert Van De Ville

Please tell us something about yourself…

My name is Robert Van De Ville, I am a nutritionist by profession. I attained a degree in nutrition from California State University and am currently living in London. I specialize in veganism and contribute my articles to multiple online magazines, portals and vegan websites.

How did you get into what you do?

My journey started about four decades ago, considering that am currently 52 years old. I was diagnosed with an allergy for milk and dairy products when I was 10 years old. I would suffer severe stomach upsets whenever I consumed food products containing milk protein.

My teenage years were difficult since I had to substitute milk with water, soy and rice milk. I once had extreme anaphylaxis, which is a life-threatening allergic reaction, at only 14 years of age. It was after that recovery that I purposed to pursue nutrition in my years of higher learning.

I developed a deep interest in plant-based diets after joining campus. It was my way of steering clear from milk proteins and all animal products at large.

That was when my veganism journey officially started after weeks of thorough research.

Who are your role models?

Realising the health and environmental benefits of veganism, I gravitated towards vegan personalities who have adhered to the lifestyle. They include sociologists, authors, athletes and fellow nutritionists most of whom are members of the Vegan Society.

Franz Kafka, the author of ‘A Hunger Artist’ had chronic digestive ailments that he successfully treated through his vegan diets. Kafka also engaged in several food fads including the notion that food should thoroughly be chewed before swallowing.

John Harvey Kellogg, a health-food evangelist and medical doctor, was a vigorous promoter of veganism.

He also urged adherents to engage in physical exercises and refrain from the consumption of tobacco and alcohol.

What inspires you?

I draw my inspiration from several sources. My main source of inspiration is the need to fight diseases and allergies naturally.

Plant-based diets that are well planned provide all the nutrients necessary to prevent and combat certain illnesses.

Animal liberation also inspires me towards the protection of animal rights.

I believe humans have the power to improve animal welfare by avoiding all forms of cruelty and exploitation of animals.

The need for proper nutrition also charges me up to propagate veganism. Appropriately planned vegan diets are healthy, nutritionally adequate and offer many benefits of good nutrition. Which include improved overall wellbeing and increased energy levels.

Please tell us about your company…

My company is known as VeganClue.com – It’s an online portal that provides information on veganism to people researching the vegan way of life. The information provided by my company enables researchers to make necessary connections concerning veganism.

What’s your most memorable experience?

My first month into veganism is by far my most memorable experience. I initially had many diet limitations since milk proteins are also present in products where they are least expected. Such as in sausages and some canned tuna.

I gained such a wide variety of healthy plant-based diets to choose from when I decided to go vegan. I no longer lived in fear of developing allergic symptoms or having life-threatening reactions. Veganism liberated me from my allergic worries.

How are you using different social media channels to market your work?
I reach new online target market through Facebook by posting links, videos and pictures that grab the attention of potential customers.

Facebook Messenger allows me to interact with my customers at a more personal level through instant messaging.

Sharing video content on YouTube allows me to create brand awareness and connect with my audience. I also update my followers on Twitter by using live tweets and providing them with easy-to-consume content of my work.

Instagram allows me to share a picture of my work products without necessarily providing much-written information.

My followers are able to get further information on the work products through direct messaging and Instagram stories.

I also use Pinterest to upload my work product photos with short descriptions and links. It makes it easier to retain my market and also reach new customers. The advertising options provided also allow me to connect with potential customers.

What’s your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is failing to meet my career goals. I believe the chance to serve as a nutritionist presents me with an opportunity to improve humanity.

The thought of not living up to my full potential and not impacting human lives with my professional knowledge terrifies me.

Looking back, what’s the one thing you wish you understood better?

I did not have a proper understanding of all the products I was supposed to avoid when growing up. Tolerating animal meat-based diets was uncomfortable since I had to exercise constant caution. I wish I had gained an understanding of the value of veganism at a much earlier age.

What are the success strategies or secrets that helped you in your journey?

I set goals for each course of my journey and became committed to fulfilling them. I considered how the experiences I went through deepened my expertise and contributed to the achievement of my long term goals.

I also embraced the transition into veganism by exercising some patience to thoroughly carry out my research. Some people become vegan overnight but my transition took about five weeks.

It also gave me enough time to know the stores from which to purchase vegan products.

Resilience was also a key strategy that helped me in my journey. I did not let unintentional consumption of nonvegan products get me down. I was relentless in navigating through the distractions that clouded my vision.

What keeps you going when things get tough?

My hope for widespread veganism in the future keeps me going in difficult times. I restore that hope by tapping into the vegan support group that helps me gain a better understanding of certain situations.

Attending vegan festivals every once in a while also renews my zeal in an incredible way.

There are plenty of innovative vegan diets that I get to see firsthand and also eat at the vegan festivals. Enjoying such moments gives me the stamina to get through tough situations.

How can people connect with you?

Reaching me through my social media handles that are on my company website is an efficient way of connecting with me. My company contact numbers have also been listed on the website for people looking to call in.

Final thoughts

Going vegan is one of the best decisions you can possibly ever make. The health and environmental benefits that come along with veganism are incomparable.

Moreover, animals also want to live. Animal liberation is not such a bad thing after all.
